Expecting respect
We all like to be respected by others. Respect is earned when we are useful to the people around us. When we are judged to be worthless, people ignore us. Don’t blame others for this mishap. We have not added something special to ourselves to attract the attention of the people in our circle for a long time. So, without any excuses, always add some value. Obviously, it is our qualities that are being recognised by our relatives, colleagues, friends, or anybody else. Even in a family, a man without work is assigned the least importance. A simple mechanic gets recognition when we need his help to restart our bike in remote places. There are unlimited ways to be recognised in our society. An unknown musician attracts attention by dint of his special art. It is not a money game everywhere. A meritorious student gets attention all of a sudden for his superb performance. Respect boosts our self-worth. Even decent behaviour is given due weight in our society without any other specialisation. Check our own merits from time to time to remain somewhat relevant in any place. It is not a difficult task. Learn how to participate in our family, society, and beyond with true recognition. It is not a reason to feel inferior when people are not attracted to us when we meet. From their perspective, we have no merit. They may also be wrong. Make ourselves indispensable to others and observe how their approaches change.
