Focus on the here and now.
Sensible living demands being present in the moment, not in the past or in the future. Our minds carry stories of what has happened or is likely to happen. It is clearly unproductive. In fact, here and now are the moments to correct the positions and do the best for the future. It is possible only when we know what is mindfulness.
Mindfulness is often defined as keeping our minds focused on the tasks at hand with the fewest distractions. Distractions occur despite our best efforts to keep them at bay. However, we are more attentive when dealing with issues with a high degree of sensitivity, like replying to tough questions, preparing reports, or operating a machine. It is clear that the degree of mindfulness depends on how we classify the tasks we are engaged with.
Going forward, we normally find that many people are highly focused on entertainment, games, and breaking news, while they are least interested in studying, learning new skills, or choosing discomfort. When we ponder "why so ", we may find a relationship between relaxing moments and taxing engagements. It is because we like to enjoy every moment without exerting effort to create happiness.
We add no value when we perform anything carelessly. Our time and energy go without meaningful returns. Whatever the nature of an activity, there is purpose in it. When we ignore the purpose, it is simply physical presence with no effort to get the essence of that exercise.
All activities are fully or partially meant to help us know who we are and what we may become. When we are not interested in self-discovery, we take even the essentials of life casually and weaken our own positions in the long term.
Once we are sincere in what we do, there is no point in missing the power of mindfulness in our talking, walking, resting, praying, listening, replying, or other engagements.
We feel exhausted from our normal schedule. What is this? It indicates that our thoughts and actions are not in alignment. When we can’t change the nature of our actions, we need to change our thoughts. It requires a lot of practise. It is possible to change our thoughts. It is possible to move from a state of carelessness to one of carefulness.
Mindfulness increases when we accept the realities of where we are and our intentions to make changes in our behaviours and personalities. Present moments are to be used to build what we want to become. It is not possible when we are lost in the past and in the future.
Mindfulness is enhanced when the purpose of what we do in our waking hours is immensely clear to us. Students who understand why they are devoting their prime time and maximum energy to their studies perform better. While cooking, it is perfect because we are fully attached to the process from start to finish.
Openness also matters when we analyse the reasons for getting nothing from our involvement in any activity for weeks, months, and years. We hesitate to express our shortcomings. When we fail to communicate about our condition, the therapist is unable to prescribe medication to treat the ailment.
Mindfulness is directly influencing our productivity. Start working on boosting mindfulness bit by bit because many tasks are unfinished and we have finite time to exhibit our uniqueness.
