Goals are fleeting, but not the vision.
We can reinvent ourselves regardless of age, gender, occupation, background, or place of origin. We have to go with goals, keeping our visions in mind. Goals are milestones that lead us towards our dreams.
Goals are means to an end, whereas vision is nearly the end of the process. We may have another vision after achieving greatness in one domain.
Before explaining goals vis-à-vis vision, let us ask ourselves a few questions like this:
What do we want to achieve in our lives, both in the long term and the short term?
What type of world do we intend to create?
Are we ready for some discomfort again and again?
Are we interested in doing something for the larger benefit of people, known and unknown?
Such questions are inputs to determining our goalposts and dreams.
Goals demand action. Achieving something step by step becomes the stepping stone for the higher purpose of our lives.
Our goal is to start a business. Once it is established, we take steps to expand it. Then we go for export. All these things are our goalposts. We intend to be known worldwide in our field of business for quality services and a brand name. It is our vision. Vision can be like an outer line without details.
Vision is a destination we wish to reach, but all angles of "how" may not need to be clear.
Practically, we can imagine anything, anytime, anywhere, and on any scale, in related or unrelated fields. Our imagination may be like a dotted diagram. Many things may or may not happen that way. No issue. Dare to imagine that it may be much bigger than our present knowledge, wisdom, limited resources, linkages, and support. Our imagination may be similar to counting birds in the bush. A builder worked on some ideas and constructed the wonders of the world. This is the power of imagination.
As we stretch our vision to some vague or clear imagination, we often achieve things that were too hard to get until yesterday.
Leading a life without any vision, mission, ambition, or struggle is nothing more than just surviving like a boat out of water.
We may have the simple goal of learning a simple skill in a year or so. Once it is achieved, we set another goal that is a little harder. After this, we get the confidence and curiosity to do tough tasks, and this process provides momentum to achieve goals not achieved by our colleagues by now.
We do not enjoy doing the same set of routines every day. It creates boredom in the short term. We have to add something to our strategies and skills, creating a different niche year after year. It elaborates on the meaning of our lives.
Dream big. Work hard. Learn to be smart through practise. A mechanic can pinpoint problems without separating parts of the engine of a vehicle. It is smartness. This smartness is not the end. How to increase the efficiency of the engine may be another challenging goal. Go ahead. Innovate something in any field and be named a visionary. Challenges show the route to being visionaries of tomorrow from whatever we are today.
