Habits are stronger than motivations and inspirations.
We are motivated by listening to speeches about raising our effectiveness but fall back to our previous ways of living in no time. The reasons are our habits. What we do every day and the manner in which we complete a day, week, or month are our habits.
Habits are effortless daily activities. Over half of our actions in a day are driven by our habits. We sleep, we wake up, we cook, we walk, we drive a vehicle, we meet strangers, we are shy, we procrastinate—all are our habits. Our happiness or memory are just habits.
We form our habits, knowingly or unknowingly, and they are good or bad as per customs and social norms. Many habits are just imitations of those with whom we grow up. All of us have a mix of good and bad habits, and as a norm, we are advised to replace the bad ones with the good ones.
A bad habit can be replaced with a good one, but this task requires both conviction and persistence to complete. It is said that old habits die hard. But no habit is too strong to modify and reform.
We are not pactual; it is a harmful habit. Now we feel it and decide to be punctual. It requires some amount of alertness every day, and within a month, we are not late in attending office or group meetings or any personal or group activities. It is a transformation, and now we get appreciation from all and sundry.
We are constantly advised to set goals and achieve them. So, say, our aim is to be a scientist. When we are not vigilant about our irresponsible habits, we cannot succeed. Thus, habits are like the pillars of buildings, with which many designs can be erected with good looks and strength.
Consider the impressive impacts of our responsible habits, as briefed here:
1. Habits are the framework of our discipline.
2. Habits are more powerful than our degrees and courses.
3. Good habits are a prerequisite to fulfilling our missions.
4. Habits direct our behaviours. Our behaviour constitutes our values.
5. People are similar in many respects, but their habits make them different.
6. People with strong habits get anything done without excuses or explanations.
7. Self-doubt is a major hurdle when we gear ourselves up for the right tunings.
8. Acquiring good habits is simply a matter of practise.
9. One or two months of struggling to eliminate bad habits pays handsome dividends for life.
10. Bad habits are time killers, and good habits are time savers.
Every day we are more productive once we learn to live an organised life. Organised life is the product of our good habits. Therefore, focus on creating sensible habits to make the lives of everyone around us satisfying and fulfilling, including our own.
