Scrolling on screens comes easier than scaling up one’s own strengths.
In a decade, there have been tremendous changes in all spheres of lifestyle. The smartphone, iPad, and laptop are our inseparable items, wherever we are. We love to scroll, consciously or just for fun, during waking hours. What we get out of this scrolling is explained, from just the passing of time to acquiring substantial information. Now, this trend will continue until further innovations come into being. Like any item of our use, these new essentials of our time are in fact useful. But its utility depends on the way we use it. When we get attached to it without a specific purpose, it is largely a waste of time. We can save this time for our own improvement. This is the key point that deserves attention. Walking, talking, glancing, listening, probing, and travelling are also means for self-improvement. On screens, we see and hear what others have designed for us, at the cost of suppressing our own creativity and imagination. We can’t be good at any skill without doing it ourselves. We need to have a balance between leaning and commanding on those learning through regular practices. In parallel, we must look into our own potential to grow and dive into the unknown. We are not eager to move on an unknown trajectory, and this reluctance has been found to be a major bottleneck in our pace of progress.
