Twenty-two steps to augment attention
In a class of thirty students, all facilities are equal, but the grading ranges from very poor to excellent. We may ascertain many factors for this wide variation, but the most dominant factor is the attention of the boys and girls in grasping the subjects they have been taught. In other words, it is the amount of their concentration during the learning process that makes all the difference. Like other skills, paying attention to what we do is also a skill. We may try the below-mentioned steps to increase our concentration.
know the purpose of what we are doing. Without knowing why, doing anything loses its shine.
Keep possible rewards in mind. Today we are learning, and tomorrow we will be recognised by the people who are ignoring us at present.
Do important things daily. No gap.
Be original because the level at which we grasp any matter is not equal.
Prefer writing in place of only reading, listening, or viewing anything.
Adhere to self-discipline irrespective of nature of engagements.
Take care of the deadline prescribed for that work.
Stay on the assignments, despite hiccups at any stage.
Create a little interest initially, in the same way we have developed an eagerness to watch games or listen to music.
Develop a suitable ambience for learning without any frills.
Apply flexibility in exceptional circumstances.
We must correct our own faults. Take example. Mathematics is not a knotty subject. But it needs our attention without being fed up at any stage until it becomes friendly to us.
Where safety is our concern, we pay high attention, as in driving.
Where our image is at stake, we are more alert. Our attention is high while baking bread, which is a common example.
In today’s environment, our extreme attachment to smart phones and TV is not allowing us to be attentive to our work at hand. Saving time and energy from these distractions is a must.
Not keeping things of regular use in order is also diverting our attention from the work we are doing.
The same formula of concentration is not applicable in reading, writing, listening, viewing, or doing something like surgery. Create a unique skill depending on our own methodology.
People are fractionally better, not because of intelligence. It is the trait of attention that has helped them be on top.
Be a whole person, one thing at a time.
Wandering of the mind is normal. Concentration is cultivated bit by bit.
Our mind spends most of the time in fears, regrets, calling friends, scrolling on screens, being reluctant to initiate a hard task, having unstable dreams, and things like that. These elements are great barriers to nurturing the skill of attention.
Reprogramming the persisting negativity in our mind deserves planned actions to see the impact of concentration on our performance.
