Values validate our thinking and behaviours.
We always talk about values, but we often don’t know what they are. As the hues of values are numerous, it becomes difficult to define them in exact terms. Values are purely internal attributes, while principles are external expressions.
We have moral values, social values, corporate values, money values, and many more in the series of values.
Core values we inherit and other values are shaped genetically as well as environmentally. Core values determine the contours of our cultures. It is more valuable than other classes of values.
Values need to be studied, and after proper screening, they are to be ingrained in our personal, interpersonal, and mass behaviors.
Beliefs and values are largely interconnected. As we find it difficult to mould our beliefs, the same is true of our value systems.
Beliefs evolve as we grow and look at what is happening around us. We start categorising what is acceptable and what is to be discarded. We judge the merits and demerits and design our lifestyles accordingly.
A man of integrity sacrifices costly things just to maintain his value, which is integrity. A greedy person uses a variety of means to accumulate wealth. It is the grade of his values.
Values establish the identity and recognition of a person in an organisation or society. An individual determines his own style of living, deviating from the ways of living of his ancestors.
Two individuals are not exactly the same because their patterns of feelings and beliefs are not identical. The behaviour of twins also differs in all cases studied. Their core values may be similar, but their perceptions and attitudes have been found to be not only varying but opposite as well.
Nurturing ingredients of virtue brings the spirit of harmony and coexistence to individuals and larger groups, and we call it the enlargement of the well-being of all around us.
